G O T C H A !

so i was doing my thing at work, and all of a sudden, i was required to come up with a dhivehi word for "GOTCHA!"

the first thing that came to my mind, as u can image , was "WTF???"

so i used all sorts of research techniques, including asking around what was an appropriate ENGLISH word for "aaaaiy" - that sound we make, to express ridicule (and many other emotions). i thought this would somehow point me in the right direction...

but i was wrong...

the realisation was harsh! there is no appropriate dhivehi word for "gotcha"...not one that would convey the meaning of the english word with its original flair...

i thought to myself, "what a shame..."

exactly! what a shame!

But umm your work sounds pretty boring to me. Are you translating English to Dhivehi or something like that? If so good luck

*faint*

PS: I hate dhivehi [as a subject]

ahh the many challenges of our mother tongue.. as for the words soadhube comes up with..who wants to use them.. they are so stuffy and uptight..I simply cannot grasp any of the new words.. ( not that i know many)

As for gotcha..I cant think of one.. 'kobaa heevejey' in a very hyper excited totally shocking tone? !!

There are instances when english fails too...iv tried to think of one word that can be used as 'thui'

find a word in english to rpresent "inginjeyyyyy" a word commonly used by wana be punks when they boast or get angry or retort.

simply break the words

got= eboi = libije
cha= a sound like the one which occurs when a kettle full of water drops to concrete. kekeke

my translation comes with the help of a teacher who ones taught a kid how to write RESTAURANT = REST-OR-RENT

anyways when u combine the words it comes

EBOICHA or libijecha
